In 2008, 551 children on Staten Island were placed in foster care. The majority children were categorized as black and the least were categorized as Asian.

Community District of Origin

423 of 551 children are from Community District 1 which includes Stapleton, Mariners Harbor, West Brighton, New Brighton, and Port Richmond.

64 children are from Community District 2.

52 Children are from Community District 3.

Compared to other boroughs, Staten Island still has the least amount of children in foster care, but it is rapidly increasing.

In 2008, Community District 1 in Staten Island, is ranked #1 in foster care placement. 5.7% or 423 children of NYC taken into foster care are from Stapleton, Mariners Harbor, West Brighton, New Brighton and Port Richmond.
